SymbioTec has initiated the procedure for obtaining the designation as Orphan Medicinal Product in Europe for its drug ONCOHIST for the treatment of AML (acute myeloid leukaemia). On November 26th 2007 SymbioTec received the opinion of the Committee for Orphan Medicinal Product (COMP): “The COMP … is of the opinion that: … the medicinal product satisfies the criteria for designation …; and the sponsor has established, … that … the above-mentioned medicinal product will be of significant benefit to those affected by that condition” (AML).

On December 20th 2007 the European Commission awarded to SymbioTec’s product, recombinant human histone H1.3, the designation as Orphan Medicinal Product for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia.
